Shrink Lifting in Korea: A Patient Guide

Shrink Lifting in Korea: A Patient Guide

Shrink lifting in Korea is an ultrasound-based (HIFU) skin-tightening treatment that delivers focused energy into the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and produce a gradual firming and lifting effect — with little to no downtime. It is best thought of as a maintenance and mild-tightening tool rather than a surgical replacement, and results build over weeks to months. At HERA Clinic in Gangnam, Shrink lifting is doctor-planned, international patients pay the same price as local patients, and you receive a written estimate before anything begins.

"Shrink" (슈링크) is one of the most recognised HIFU device names in Korea, which is why patients often search for it by name. In practice, the principle is the same as other focused-ultrasound lifting: heat is delivered at set depths to trigger the skin's own repair-and-remodel response.

What Shrink lifting actually is

Shrink lifting uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to heat targeted depths beneath the skin surface — typically layers reaching down toward the SMAS (the fibromuscular layer that surgeons tighten in a facelift). The controlled thermal points cause micro-injury that the body responds to by producing new collagen over the following weeks. The visible outcome is subtler firming, a cleaner jawline edge, and a mild lift — not dramatic surgical repositioning.

Because the energy passes through the skin surface without cutting, there is usually no visible wound and most people return to normal life the same day. This is why it appeals to travellers and to people who want tightening without the commitment of a thread lift or SMAS-focused device.

Who Shrink lifting is for — and who it is NOT for

Honesty first: Shrink lifting is not a magic wand. It suits some people beautifully and disappoints others who expected surgery-level change.

  • Good candidates: people in their late 20s to 50s with early to moderate laxity, a slightly softening jawline, or those wanting periodic "upkeep" tightening.
  • Also good: patients who cannot take downtime or who want a lower-commitment, non-injectable first step into lifting.
  • NOT ideal for: significant sagging, heavy jowls, or a lot of loose skin — these often need a thread lift, a stronger SMAS-focused ultrasound protocol, or a surgical consult.
  • NOT for: those expecting a single treatment to replicate a facelift, or anyone who wants an instant, dramatic same-day change.

If your main concern is deeper structural sagging, we may suggest reading our thread lift guide or our SMAS lifting (Ultherapy) guide instead — and we will tell you honestly at consultation which fits your face.

Good to know

HIFU lifting layers well with collagen-stimulating boosters. Many patients pair a tightening session with skin-quality treatments for a fuller result — but the sequencing matters, so let the doctor plan the timing.

What's included at HERA — and how pricing works

A Shrink lifting plan at HERA is not just "a number of shots." It includes a doctor-led facial assessment, a mapped treatment plan matched to your areas of concern (jawline, lower face, under-chin, cheeks), the treatment itself with appropriate depth cartridges selected for each zone, and clear written aftercare.

We do not publish figures online because the right plan genuinely depends on your face, your goals, and the depth zones treated. What we can promise is our pricing policy: international patients pay exactly the same price as local Korean patients — no foreigner markup. Before anything begins, you receive an itemised written estimate agreed in advance, so there are no surprises. You can request that estimate through a consultation, in person or ahead of your trip.

You can explore related options on our lifting treatments page, and if skin quality is part of your goal, our skin regeneration boosters page explains the collagen-building treatments we often pair with HIFU.

Trust: doctor-led care and genuine devices

Ultrasound lifting is only as good as the person planning the depth, energy and shot distribution. Too little does nothing; too aggressive risks discomfort or uneven results. That is why every Shrink lifting plan at HERA is designed and supervised by a licensed physician, not left entirely to a machine setting.

We handle devices and consumables under a genuine-product protocol — cartridges are opened in front of you where relevant, and records are kept — so you can be confident about what is being used on your skin.

Every plan starts with an in-person consultation with a licensed physician.

Recovery timeline and travel-aware aftercare

One of the biggest advantages of Shrink lifting is how gentle recovery is — but a little planning still helps if you are visiting Seoul.

  • Day of treatment: mild redness, slight warmth, and possible tenderness or a tingling sensation in treated areas. Most people go straight back to their day, including light sightseeing.
  • Around 3 days: any tenderness when chewing or touching the jaw usually settles. Mild puffiness, if present, eases.
  • Around 7 days: most sensations have resolved. The tightening effect is not yet at its peak — collagen remodelling continues quietly over the following weeks.

Before you fly

Because the visible lift builds over weeks, schedule Shrink lifting early enough that you are not chasing an instant result before an event. Avoid intense heat (saunas, hot springs) and vigorous exercise for the first day or two, and keep the skin hydrated and sun-protected while you travel.

Visiting HERA in Gangnam

For international patients, the logistics matter as much as the treatment. Here is how a Shrink lifting visit works at HERA.

  • Booking: enquire and reserve before you arrive in Korea so your slot is confirmed.
  • Interpreter: an on-site English interpreter joins your consultation and treatment, so the plan, risks and aftercare are fully clear.
  • Length of stay: most Shrink lifting sessions are completed in a single visit with essentially no downtime, so they fit easily into a short trip.
  • Combining treatments: if you are considering boosters, fillers or another lifting option, we can sequence them around your travel dates and downtime.
  • Pricing: same price for locals and visitors, with an itemised written estimate agreed before we begin.

If you would like a personalised plan — including an honest answer about whether Shrink lifting is even the right choice for your face — our English-speaking team is one message away, with no obligation to proceed on the day you enquire.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Q1Is Shrink lifting the same as a facelift?
No. Shrink lifting is a non-surgical ultrasound (HIFU) treatment that stimulates collagen for gradual, mild tightening. It cannot replicate surgery. For significant sagging, a thread lift or surgical consult may suit you better — we will advise honestly at consultation.
  • Q2When will I see results from Shrink lifting?
There may be a subtle initial firmness, but the main effect builds gradually over roughly 2-3 months as collagen remodels. Results vary by individual, so schedule it well ahead of any event rather than expecting an instant change.
  • Q3Does Shrink lifting have downtime?
Usually little to none. Mild redness, warmth or tenderness may appear on the day and typically settles within a few days, so most patients return to daily activities immediately.
  • Q4Do international patients pay more for Shrink lifting at HERA?
No. International patients pay exactly the same price as local patients, with no foreigner markup. You receive an itemised written estimate agreed before treatment, so we cannot quote a figure here — it depends on your assessed plan.
  • Q5Can I combine Shrink lifting with other treatments?
Often yes. HIFU tightening pairs well with collagen-stimulating skin boosters and can be planned alongside fillers or other lifting options. Sequencing and timing matter, so our doctors will plan the order around your goals and travel dates.
