A First-Timer’s Guide to Fillers in Korea

HERA Clinic4 min read
A First-Timer’s Guide to Fillers in Korea

Planning aesthetic treatment in Seoul for the first time can feel overwhelming — especially when the consultation happens in a language that is not your own. At HERA Clinic in Gangnam, every international patient is supported by an on-site English interpreter and pays the same price as local patients, so you can focus on the result rather than the logistics. This guide walks you through everything a first-timer needs to know: how a good consultation works, which fillers people actually ask about, what the material really is, what recovery looks like, and how a visit to HERA is structured from your first message to your flight home.

1. Start with a proper consultation

Good filler is not about volume for its own sake — it is about balance. A board-certified doctor assesses your facial proportions, skin condition and goals, then designs a plan that looks natural in motion, not just at rest. During a first consultation at HERA, the physician looks at how light falls across your face, how your skin moves when you smile or speak, and where subtle asymmetries already exist. First-timers are often surprised that the honest answer is sometimes “less than you think” — a small correction in the right place reads as looking rested, not “done.”

A thorough consultation should cover your medical history, any previous injectables, allergies, and what you are hoping to change in everyday terms rather than in units of product. Bring reference photos if you have them; they help translate a feeling into a shared, measurable plan. You should leave the consultation understanding not only what is recommended, but why — and what would happen if you chose to do nothing.

2. The fillers first-timers actually ask about

“Filler” is not one treatment but a family of them, each matched to a different area and a different goal. The right product, needle or cannula, and depth change completely depending on the zone. A few of the most common starting points:

  • General facial contouring — chin, cheeks, temples and jawline to restore balance and a soft V-line. This is where most first-timers begin, and you can read the specifics on our general facial fillers page.
  • Lip enhancement — shape, definition and gentle hydration rather than dramatic volume. Natural-looking lips are one of the most requested treatments; see our dedicated lip filler guide for what to expect.
  • Under-eye and fine-detail areas — delicate zones that demand an experienced hand and conservative dosing.

If you are still deciding where to start, our full fillers overview lays out every area we treat so you can arrive at your consultation with a clearer question in mind.

3. Understand the material

HERA uses hyaluronic-acid (HA) fillers and other clinically approved products. HA is a sugar molecule naturally present in your skin, where it binds water and keeps tissue plump and hydrated. Because injected HA is so close to what your body already makes, it integrates smoothly and feels soft rather than rigid. Crucially, it is reversible: if an adjustment is ever needed, an enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve it. That safety net is one of the main reasons HA remains the first choice for people receiving filler for the very first time.

Not all HA fillers are the same. They differ in thickness, lift capacity and how long they last — a firmer product suited to structural areas like the chin behaves very differently from a soft, fluid product used near the lips or under the eyes. Part of a good consultation is matching product properties to the specific job, and confirming that every product used is genuine and government-approved.

4. Plan a little downtime

One of the reasons filler is a popular first treatment is that recovery is usually gentle. Still, planning around it makes the experience calmer, especially if you are travelling.

  • Most patients return to daily activities immediately.
  • Mild swelling, redness or bruising can appear and usually settles within 2–3 days; lips in particular can look fuller than the final result for the first 48 hours.
  • Avoid intense heat (saunas, hot yoga), alcohol and strenuous exercise for the first 24–48 hours.
  • Sleep slightly elevated on the first night and avoid pressing or massaging the treated area unless your doctor instructs otherwise.
  • Final results typically settle over 1–2 weeks as any swelling resolves and the product integrates.

If you are visiting Seoul for a short trip, a useful rule of thumb is to schedule injectable treatments early in your stay, leaving a few buffer days before any events or your flight home.

5. Visiting HERA in Gangnam

For international patients, the logistics around a treatment often cause more anxiety than the treatment itself. Here is how a visit to HERA is structured so there are no surprises.

  • Consultation and booking: you can enquire and reserve a slot before you arrive in Korea, so your visit is confirmed rather than left to chance.
  • Interpretation: an on-site English interpreter accompanies your consultation and treatment, so nothing about your plan, risks or aftercare is lost in translation.
  • Length of stay: most filler treatments are completed in a single visit with minimal downtime, which fits comfortably into a short trip — though we will always advise honestly if your goals are better served across more than one session.
  • Aftercare while travelling: you will receive clear, written aftercare guidance, and our team remains reachable if a question comes up after you have left the clinic.
  • Payment and pricing: international patients pay the same price as local patients, with no foreigner markup and transparent, itemised pricing agreed before anything begins.
  • Combining treatments: if you are considering more than one procedure, we can plan them together so that timing, downtime and your travel schedule all line up.

We would rather you leave with a smaller, honest plan you understand than an oversized one you were talked into. Medicine done well is conservative by default, and a good clinic will tell you when the best option is to wait or to do less.

6. Choose a clinic you can trust

Wherever you ultimately go, the questions are the same. Look for genuine, government-approved products; specialists who perform the procedure themselves rather than delegating it; transparent pricing with no foreigner markup; and a team willing to explain risks, not just benefits. A clinic that is comfortable saying “you don’t need that” is usually one worth trusting.

If you would like a personalised plan, our English-speaking team is one message away — and there is no obligation to proceed on the day you enquire.
